Let’s go to the plain: Paz de Ariporo

Today I will talk about my place of origin and the beautiful places we can visit and some of the activities we can do in some seasons of the year. Paz de Ariporo, a municipality located northeast of the department of Casanare, is 90km from Yopal and 426km from Bogotá. It has many places to visit, places where you can enjoy the weather and the good view offered by the beautiful landscapes of the plain.

Paz de Ariporo has several tourist sites to visit, among them is the Cerro de la Cruz, which is reached by walking, is 5 minutes from the town, from there we can see the immensity of the plain, the Ariporo River, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, in addition, in holy week it is frequent that the inhabitants go there to the viacrusis. Another place to visit is the Vainillal Nature Reserve, you can go by bicycle, motorcycle, car and even on foot, it is approximately 20 minutes from the town, there you can enjoy a walk observing the nature and the crystal clear water that goes through the center of the reserve.

One of the favorite places for many and for me is the Ariporo River, there are different parts of the river to go swimming and enjoy a sunny day, my favorite place on the river is La Peral and Barlovento, are two ideal places to swim and be in peace and tranquility with nature, water is very cold and also are good places for «Paseo de Olla».

Among the other places to visit is El Lago Azul, an ideal place to enjoy your sight, swim, fish or just relax, is very close to the town, approximately 10 minutes.

The festivities are one of the most important events of the municipality, these are held from January 4 to 8, you can attend different activities such as Motocross, Coleo, Car audio, Craft Festival, Cattle Fair, Reign of sympathy, pyrotechnics games, horseback riding, musical nights…

One of the most visited places by tourists and inhabitants is the main park, around there is Nuestra Señora de Manare School, Nuestra Señora de Manare Church, Bancolombia, Bancoagrario and different commercial establishments. The main park is a very popular place during the weekends, and during the patron saint festivities it is a place to share with friends and relatives of the different activities, in addition, in December we can observe it with its Christmas decoration.

Finally, a typical dish that every visitor and inhabitant has to try is La Mamona or also called Carne a la Llanera, it is a dish made up of beef (heifer), cassava, potatoes, rice, guacamole and if you want, you can accompany beer, this dish is very common in all the estaderos and some restaurants. My family makes La Mamona on special occasions like Christmas, it is special to share with everyone the joy of Christmas.
